    Transmitter Compatibility

Elinchrom produced three different EL-Skyport versions over the past years.

Every new generation did offer additional new features and improved performance, but still it is possible to use the Hi-Sync feature with earlier versions of the EL-Skyport receivers either built-in Elinchrom flash units or as a plug-in module.

Please find in the compatibility chart your version and the available features, when used with the latest Transmitter PRO.

    1st Generation

EL-Skyport Transceiver RX plug-in module for Style RX, Digital RX and Ranger RX.

The units with the transceiver RX can be detected but their power levels will not be displayed.

Their power levels can however be adjusted.

    2nd Generation

Built-in EL-Skyport module Mk1 for BRX, D-Lite RX, Quadra, Quadra Hybrid.

These units can be detected with their power levels displayed and adjusted.

    3rd Generation

Built-in EL-Skyport module Mk2 for ELC Pro HD and ELB.

These units can be detected with their power levels displayed and adjusted.

This generation also offers extended distance range.

    FAQ

    Transmitter and unit compatibility

Which Elinchrom units are fully compatible with the Elinchrom Transmitters?

A compatibility chart with flash units, settings and functionnalities is available on our website.
    Please see below:

    http://www.elinchrom.com/support/ELSP-HS.html

    How good is Hi-Sync?

What results can I expect at a 1/8000s?

Hi-Sync is camera, flash and shutter speed dependant.

The gradient effect can be minimized with specific Hi-Sync equipment such as the Quadra HS flash head or D-Lite RX 4, with the ODS functionnality or by simply reducing the shutter speed on the camera.

    http://www.elinchrom.com/reviews/SkyportPlusHS.html

    What is Hi-Sync?

I need more informations about Hi-Sync technology.

Hi-Sync is the exclusive Elinchrom technology to go beyond the X-Sync of your DSLR camera.

You can easily set up and trigger your DSLR camera up to 1/8000s shutter speed

This allows you to freeze motion, overpower the sun, darken background and use wider aperture.

For more information on Hi-Sync technology:

    http://www.elinchrom.com/learn/what-is-hi-sync.html

    HSS, Hi-Sync, HS, HyperSync?

HSS, Hi-Sync, HS, HyperSync. What's all this?

All these allow you to achieve high shutter speed.

    • Hi-Sync (HS) is an Elinchrom technology which is similar to HyperSync from PocketWizard but is much easier to use and produces better results.
    • High Speed Sync (HSS), on the other hand, in general is a less powerful tool.
But, with ELB 500 TTL, we have been able to optimise HSS to the point that it is not dissimilar in power to Hi-Sync, thus making Elinchrom's HSS the most powerful HSS from comparable powered units on the market to date.

More information about HS and HSS technologies:

    http://www.elinchrom.com/learn/hss-hs.html

    What is ODS?

What is the ODS feature on the Transmitter PRO?

    ODS means Over Drive Sync.

It enables to fine tune the Transmitter trigger signal to optimize exposure at high shutter speeds while gaining more light.

The ODS Setup offers adjustment from 0.1 to 5.0 ms or can be switched off.

The ODS value will vary depending on the camera and the flash unit used, and must be adjusted manually.

    Transmitter user manual

Where can I find the manual for the Elinchrom Transmitters?

    Transmitter PRO Firmware update

How can I update the firmware of my Transmitter PRO?

The firmware of the Transmitter PRO can be updated via the mini USB socket.

Please download the Elinchrom Updater software available on our website:

    http://www.elinchrom.com/support/firmware.html

Use a Canon Transmitter on a Nikon camera and reverse

Is the Transmitter PRO for Nikon also usable on manual when mounted on a Canon or other brands? I don't need the Hi-Sync feature, just for triggering.

Yes you can use it manually.

Only the hot-shoe middle contact is available to trigger Elinchrom flash units.

You can use a Canon Elinchrom Transmitter on a Nikon or a Nikon Elinchrom Transmitter on a Canon in manual mode. You can still controll power and see the unit displayed on the Transmitter.

But Hi-Sync and ODS features are not available and will not have any effect!

Unit not displayed on the Transmitter PRO

I can't find my old unit on the display when doing a scan.

Units equipped with a plug-in Transceiver RX are limited in remote features.

These units can however be triggered and controlled (but with no visual feedback) by the Transmitter PRO.
For more information about compatibility, please check this page.

Transmitter PRO don't recognize the unit

I cannot get the Transmitter to recognize my unit. I have tried every frequency across both units but nothing seems to work.

Activate the EL-Skyport receiver in your unit.

    1. Switch on the EL-Skyport receiver in the unit.
    2. Set Group and Frequency channel to 1.
    3. Set the sync mode of the unit to NORMAL SYNC mode under the ELSP feature, the backlit display should appear green.
